About me

Christoph Beck began his Bachelor's studies in Jazz and Popular Music in 2007 at the State University of Music and Performing Arts Stuttgart, studying with Prof. Bernd Konrad (saxophone), Prof. Rainer Tempel (composition/arrangement), and Eberhard Hahn (flute/clarinet). He graduated in April 2012 with highest honors (*summa cum laude*). During the winter semester of 2010/2011, he studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna with Klaus Dickbauer and Matthias Rüegg (composition/arrangement). From October 2012 to July 2014, Christoph Beck completed a Master of Music in Performance degree with Hubert Winter at the University of Music Würzburg.

From 2006 to 2008, he was a member of the Baden-Württemberg State Youth Jazz Orchestra under the direction of Prof. Bernd Konrad, and in 2010/2011 he was a member of the German National Youth Jazz Orchestra (BuJazzO) under the direction of Prof. Steffen Schorn and Prof. Maria Baptist.

In 2009, Christoph Beck received the “Young Lions Jazz Award” from the Lions Club Stuttgart/Killesberg, and in 2010 he was awarded a scholarship by the Baden-Württemberg Stiftung.

Concert tours have taken him to China, the United Arab Emirates, South Africa, and Ireland, among other countries.

As a freelance musician, Christoph Beck regularly performs with the Tobias Becker Bigband, the Hot Damn Horns, the Slavko Benic Orkestr, the SWR4 and SWR1 bands, as well as with his own ensembles such as *Das letzte Känguru*, the Christoph Beck Quartet, and TARTAROS. He also performs with numerous big bands (including the SWR Big Band, NDR Bigband, Eberhard Budziat Bigband Project, Stuttgart Jazz Orchestra, Jazz Factory Orchestra, Alexander Bühl Concert Jazz Band, and Sunday Night Orchestra), in various jazz and popular music projects, and in a wide range of theater and musical productions, including *West Side Story*, *Chicago*, *La Cage aux Folles*, *Tina*, *The Bodyguard*, *Rocky*, *Linie 1*, *Faust*, *Twelfth Night*, *Happy End*, and *Hair*.

Christoph Beck also works as a lecturer at several universities and as a workshop instructor.

Since 2025, he has been a member of the SWR Big Band.
